Hits and Misses from…September!?!

December 2, 2011  |  Eats, Hits & Misses, Restaurant Reviews  |  No Comments

So, it's December. Better late than never?! Hehe. Three months later, I'm finally putting out the Hits and Misses post that I was so excited to start doing! Hahaha. This being the first run, let me know what you guys think! If I'm writing too much, or too little, etc.

I am in LOVE with Loving Hut!

(Please don't tell Rk) When I heard an all-vegan restaurant opened up, I knew I had to try it. Unfortunately, I let time get the best of me. Then I let my short attention span get the best of me. Let's just say, this was before I started reading Getting Things Done. Hehe. In any case, months flew by, and before I knew it, they were opening ANOTHER restaurant. Another year probably would've passed had it not been for @kyleepuu organizing the impromptu meetup a few weeks ago!

Downbeat Diner and Vegan Bacon!!

Downbeat Diner and Vegan Bacon!!

I can't believe how quickly time has passed. I've officially been vegetarian for OVER a year now. Coming from someone who ate meat at every meal, and liked her steak medium rare, you'd be surprised to hear that I don't miss meat. At all. I can sit next to someone digging into a melty cheesy burger, or crisp salty-sweet bacon, and I won't even flinch. Of course, if the opportunity presents itself, I'm always down to try veggie'd meat.

Red rice shenanigans

Red rice shenanigans

February 28, 2011  |  Eats, Recipes  |  2 Comments

Have you ever ordered fried rice from Green Papaya and requested it to be made with brown rice? No? Do it. It's seriously one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever had. Something about the nutty-ness of the brown rice and the crazy mashup of whatever seasoning they use makes it one of our all time favorite places to go. One problem: replicating it is pretty tough. Ironically, as I stared at the plate, trying to figure out why it was so delish, the rice called out to me. "Not brown rice!" Okay, that was actually Ry saying that as he tried another bite. I agreed with him, though. It definitely didn't look brown. So we headed for chinatown, in search of answers.

They’re down with the beat

February 15, 2011  |  Eats, Restaurant Reviews  |  No Comments

The vegan beat, that is. Vegans have it rough. They avoid all animal products, including eggs and dairy (life without ice cream, can you imagine it??). However, they can now rejoice! There's a new restaurant in Chinatown, Downbeat, that amazingly has a vegan option for EVERYTHING.

Save the Chickens! *again*

Save the Chickens! *again*

Instead of turkey, I did it up the TRUE vegetarian way, and saved those chickies with TOFU! Orange tofu, to be exact. Sounds a little off, I know, but be adventurous! :)

Chinatown Eats: Maria Bonitas

Chinatown Eats: Maria Bonitas

July 20, 2010  |  Eats, Restaurant Reviews  |  No Comments

More often than not, the lazy bug rules the weekend mornings. "5 more minutes" becomes 2 more hours, and when I blink it's after 2pm. I crawl out of bed only to see that pesky to-do list, wagging it's finger at me. But this weekend was different! It was still morning and we were out the door, lappies packed, and heading toward downtown to find a place to get some work done. We decided on Manifest, and got to work, coffee in hand. At around 12pm, my stomach started complaining... Ten minutes later, I started complaining! hehe. I started looking around for a place that a was open, which, on the weekend, isn't much once you venture past Smith street. That's when I noticed the open sign at Maria Bonitas, a Mexican joint on Hotel street.
