This month’s Around Hawaii post is yet another review, as I still haven’t been able to get myself into the kitchen…
I was, however, able to check out Beach Bum Cafe, located in Executive Centre in Downtown. They’re not your ordinary coffee shop, all their coffees are ground on the spot, and brewed one or two cups at a time! The coffee was great, and while I haven’t been able to get there as often as I’d like (I’ve been on a stricter budget these days), I’m looking forward to treating myself with the good stuff every once in a while
Their brewing methods alone are a great reason to check them out. It’s like chemistry all over again! Hehe.
Being busier than normal at work and with classes, I’ve been migrating from recipes to restaurant reviews on my Around Hawaii blog.
I guess even though I don’t have as much time to cook, I still make time to eat! Hehe.

Have you ever ordered fried rice from Green Papaya and requested it to be made with brown rice? No? Do it. It's seriously one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever had. Something about the nutty-ness of the brown rice and the crazy mashup of whatever seasoning they use makes it one of our all time favorite places to go. One problem: replicating it is pretty tough. Ironically, as I stared at the plate, trying to figure out why it was so delish, the rice called out to me. "Not brown rice!" Okay, that was actually Ry saying that as he tried another bite. The vegan beat, that is. Vegans have it rough. They avoid all animal products, including eggs and dairy (life without ice cream, can you imagine it??). However, they can now rejoice! After the previous post about what red velvet REALLY is (no folks, not just choco cake with tons of red food coloring), I decided that maybe a taste test should go down. Of course, that was months ago, and the thought slipped my mind as the holidays came, left, and I let school do the whole time-consumption thing. Then, fate intervened. The "Eat the Streets" food truck rally happened, and my coworkers left me in the Gogi Korean Tacos line while they skipped over to the Let them Eat Cupcakes tent. Honestly? I didn't care. Not a huge cupcake fan, and currently participating in our office's version of "The Biggest Loser" I figure I could spare myself the calories. All this changed when they came into the office the next day raving about these darn cupcakes. It's been over a month. Actually, it's been something close to TWO months since my last post. As usual, I underestimated that beast of a time hoard, school. Four classes, and one of them a REAL class instead of all the online shenanigans I'm used to. It's actually pretty exciting, and I'm enjoying all my classes. The downside is that it's taking away time from blogging, reading, cooking and stuff like laundry. (Thankfully Ry's been doing it haha) Of course, with the new year in full swing (can you believe it's already February!?) This year, I'm once again participating in Kanu Hawaii's "Simplify the Holidays" campaign. It's funny when you think about it, but I've never stopped to ask what Red Velvet cake is.
