So what was supposed to be an incredibly productive summer has already fallen to pieces. Well, just in the sense of blogging. Outside of that, I've been working late, keeping up with reading blogs, reading (I already finished Delivering Happiness, and have moved on to The Happiness Hypothesis) and strangely enough, I've been reading up on (weird, I know) fashion blogs.

I'm moved by how quickly the community has come together, planned events in his honor and even started a scholarship in Ryan's name! In the midst of all this, of everyone's kind words, of photos being posted, I kept seeing this one pair of shorts. I know he has a bunch of incredibly bright, vivid Jams, but for whatever reason, these were stuck in my head. This week has been ridiculous for me. I've been working crazy hours, studying for finals, writing a paper, and trying to keep up with my work out schedule. Of course, being the procrastinator that I am, I decided that this week would be a great time to get some baking in. Hahaha.

Then I let my short attention span get the best of me. Let's just say, this was before I started reading Getting Things Done. Hehe. In any case, months flew by, and before I knew it, they were opening ANOTHER restaurant. Another year probably would've passed had it not been for @kyleepuu organizing the impromptu meetup a few weeks ago!

Coming from someone who ate meat at every meal, and liked her steak medium rare, you'd be surprised to hear that I don't miss meat. At all. I can sit next to someone digging into a melty cheesy burger, or crisp salty-sweet bacon, and I won't even flinch. Of course, if the opportunity presents itself, I'm always down to try veggie'd meat.

This was the very beginning of my food and recipe blogging attempts, posted almost a year ago, and definitely before Nubcakes was born! In any case, I made a batch for another coworker's house warming... Then someone at the party requested I make them for the upcoming bake sale. And for another baby shower next week. And finally... For someone's wedding. Cross your fingers for me! I'm a bit nervous for that last one. ><

First a little background, I have two sisters: one a few years older and one that's 12 years younger. I like to think that we influenced her a lot growing up. I also like to hope that she saw all our mistakes, took a mental note, and made sure she learned from our errors, so she wouldn't have to repeat them.

I was, however, able to check out Beach Bum Cafe, located in Executive Centre in Downtown. They’re not your ordinary coffee shop, all their coffees are ground on the spot, and brewed one or two cups at a time! The coffee was great, and while I haven’t been able to get there as often as I’d like (I’ve been on a stricter budget these days), I’m looking forward to treating myself with the good stuff every once in a while
Their brewing methods alone are a great reason to check them out. It’s like chemistry all over again! Hehe.

Being busier than normal at work and with classes, I’ve been migrating from recipes to restaurant reviews on my Around Hawaii blog.
I guess even though I don’t have as much time to cook, I still make time to eat!
Hehe.
Check out my review of Eat Cafe in the Gentry Pacific Design Center, over on Around Hawaii.com. The Sunnyside panini (pictured above) was delish! Can’t wait to go back!
Have you ever ordered fried rice from Green Papaya and requested it to be made with brown rice? No? Do it. It's seriously one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever had. Something about the nutty-ness of the brown rice and the crazy mashup of whatever seasoning they use makes it one of our all time favorite places to go. One problem: replicating it is pretty tough. Ironically, as I stared at the plate, trying to figure out why it was so delish, the rice called out to me. "Not brown rice!" Okay, that was actually Ry saying that as he tried another bite. I agreed with him, though. It definitely didn't look brown. So we headed for chinatown, in search of answers.

However, they can now rejoice! There's a new restaurant in Chinatown, Downbeat, that amazingly has a vegan option for EVERYTHING.
