August Foodie Pen Pals: Chitown!

August Foodie Pen Pals: Chitown!

September 6, 2012  |  Eats

Nothing like moving to assist in epic memory loss. I meant to write this up WAY earlier, then procrastinated, and now here I am, September 5th. :/

This month, I got paired up with two awesome guys and a whole lot of irony. I found out that the person I was assigned to send goodies to is planning on visiting my hometown (Hawaii), and the person that was assigned as my foodie pen pal is coming (or actually, at this point, already came) to NYC! :D

Also: I realized that I’ve become mildly homesick. Mostly for the people, but also for the food! When I emailed with the person visiting Hawaii, I started also creating my own list of places that I wanted to visit when I go back home in December! (As I sit here, sans a/c, I’m also daydreaming about Ice Garden. I feel like I haven’t had legit shave ice in…. well, a year! Hahhahaa).

Let me backtrack for a quick second for those that are scratching their heads and wondering what the heck a Foodie Pen Pal is. I just started doing this recently, and it’s kind of like Birchbox for food, curated by the people that live in that area. :D You get paired up with two different people, one who you send items to, and one who sends items to you. There’s a $15 spending limit, and items must be sent out and blogged about by certain deadlines (the latter of which isn’t too strict, since here I am posting five days late ><).

I like it because it’s about connecting with other bloggers and foodies and getting to try new and interesting things from areas that I might otherwise never visit! :D If you’d like to sign up, or for more info, check out Lindsey’s blog. She’s the brains as well as the work behind all of this magic. :)

On to the box! :D

This month, my pen pal was from Chicago and he sent me none other than:

August Foodie Pen Pal

August Foodie Pen Pal-2

Yep. Garrett’s Popcorn!

Even more irony, the last time I was in Chicago (January), we waited in 6 degree weather to get some of this. So you can bet your frozen fingers that it’s pretty awesome. I’ve actually never been brave enough to try the cheddar/caramel combo. Especially since my sweet tooth is out of control! :D

The salty/sweet combo totally pulled through – and my coworkers will vouch for it. I brought it in (there was no way I could eat this entire bag) and it was GONE. Hahahhaa. Luckily I took my share before putting it out ;) So thanks, Seth! It was an awesome treat!

Can’t wait until next month!
