Looks like my thumb isn’t so green afterall.
Unless, of course, you count this strange green-ish tinged dirt as part of my thumb.
I guess you could count this little guy, too. I’m pretty sure he’s green…

I thought being in an apartment meant I wouldn’t have to deal with the bugs that dwell in the bushes and on the ground, but I was wrong!
Aphids. Apparently lady bugs are their known enemy, but I think my apartment is too high up for them. In any case, they never came. I heard you can buy something like 1,500 lady bugs online and unleash them in your garden, but when I checked it out (I thought it’d be hilarious to unleash a thousand lady bugs on the balcony) they don’t ship to Hawaii.
So the dill has moved on to the great beyond. I’m sure he’s happier, flourishing in garden heaven. Contemplating what I should replace him with. Any ideas?

No fungus among us!
One of the funniest stories I remember about my sisters revolves around fungus. Not fungus like mold or mildew, but mushrooms! First a little background, I have two sisters: one a few years older and one that's 12 years younger. I like to think that we influenced her a lot growing up. My dill doesn’t love me
When normal people hear dill, they think about it with potatoes. Me? I think about cucumbers. It just so happens that dill pickles were my all time favorite snack when I was a kid. Strange kid, right? I guess the strange runs deep in our family, because both my older sister and my little sister love dill pickles too! We seriously go through those huge costco sized jars of pickles in a month or so. Probably not the best for our blood pressure, but better than ho-ho's and cupcakes, right? Anyway. Back to the herbs. more
Turning my thumb green
I've always been interested in gardening, but I've never really mustered up the guts to get out there and buy a plant. I guess I've always been a little nervous that my thumb will be more brown than green, and I'll destroy whatever poor plant I attempt to grow. Then one day, just about a month ago, as I was walking around the open market on Fort Street, I decided to just go for it. After a slew of questions (How much sun does it need? Will a balcony work? How often do I water it? Is it possible to over-water? How do I harvest them?) I bought a Basil and Italian Parsley plant. Amazingly, I not only kept them both alive, they were GROWING! more
Maybe something closer to an edible weed. They say cilantro and oregano are like that. Just give them some dirt and a ton of sun with the occasional water and they’re supposed to thrive.
Someone on twitter mentioned chives, but cilantro sounds good, too. Thanks for the idea!
rosemary. definitely rosemary. mine won’t stop growing. and i can give you more if you kill the first one. LOL
I think this pot’s too shallow for rosemary~ I heard the roots go deep, and this ones the little bowl types.
