Themed out Thursdays presents: Sammy Day!

Although our office is made up of about 80 or so people, when lunch time rolls around, there’s usually only the same 8 or 9 of us in the lunch room at the same time.  Some call us “clique-ish”, but personally, I like to call us the “cool kids” hahaa.

Anyway.

Our little group decided it’d be fun and exciting to do themed weekly lunches. With plate lunches in downtown being in the $6-$10 range, the bring a little, get a lot, potluck idea sold in just under 2.5 seconds! :D

We’ve actually been talking about it since the beginning of summer, but only got around to planning it out when my coworker thought up the brilliant idea of using google docs (vs. a million emails back and forth).

Why didn’t I think of that?

So we set it up and enjoyed our inaugural “Themed out Thursday” last week.

Sammy day! (Sandwich, for those of you who don’t speak 3rd grader, heh)

The spread!

The bread. I’d like to say the bread makes the sandwich, and this bread was amazing. It reminded me of french bread, but soft and crusty and delicious! (She got it at Sam’s Club for those interested) It fed us for 2 days (and we STILL had extras) for only $4.46! What a steal!

Bread!

The filling lineup:

Bacon, apple tuna curry salad (don’t knock it till you try it!), egg salad, ham, roast beef, veggies (sugar snap peas, lettuce, tomatoes, celery and carrots), cheese, and CHIPS!

Really, sandwiches should always have chips in them.

The toppings: Egg Salad, Apple Tuna Curry Salad, and BaconMore meats: Ham and roast beefThe veggies: tomato, lettuce, carrots, celery and sugar snap peasCan't have a sammy day sans chips!

See the beauty in that?

My sandwich

Chips and Sandwiches.  Like shoyu and rice. Li hing and gummy bears. Ketchup and fries! They make happy marriages. :D

Roast beef/bacon/egg salad sandwiches….these make messes. Especially when they fall apart before you take a bite.

Let it be known that egg salad doesn’t stain. She got the mayo out, and no one (except the 8 of us giggling) was the wiser.

We finished it off with YUMMYCUPS!

Yummycups!

Went to a tweetup a few days before our little shindig, and never got around to eating these little bites of happiness.

Hawaii IRL blogger Shauna Goya did a little write up on these guys. Good stuff. My favorite was definitely the Chocolate Haupia. Chocolate chips in the cupcake, along with a haupia filling, and SO moist, even after sitting in my fridge for two days!

I am in love. *swoon*

Happy Thursday~! Today’s theme is Sushi! I can’t wait to see our spread :D

***EDIT: Leave it to the vegetarian to mistake Pastrami for Roast Beef. HAHAHA. :D

  1. “Potluck” style lunches like this are always genius! Too bad I usually eat at my desk, alone.

    The sushi one is good.
Maybe the next week do tacos! There’s lots of cheap ingredients there.

    • The sushi potluck turned out great, and we’re doing tacos next week :) hehe.
I do the eating at my desk at times, but usually only do that if I hit the gym during my lunch :) (very rare haaha)
